Development of Micro Alloy Mild Steel for Construction Purposes

All India Induction Furnaces Association (AIIFA) and National Institute of Secondary Steel Technology (NISST), Mandi Gobindgarh (Punjab) are carrying out development work for manufacturing Micro-Alloy Mild Steels for manufacture of Construction bars and rods.
The strength of such bars and rods will be almost twice that of even Tor Steel. The manufacture of pencil ingots has been done in Induction Melting Furnaces at Bhiwadi (Rajasthan). Necessary tests on the ingots have been done. The rolling of the ingots in a Rolling mills at Bhiwadi is in progress to produce twisted bars. Necessary Mechanical and Chemical tests will be carrying out in the month of April 2003. The Steel of varying Micro-alloys such as vanadium-nitrogen and niobium of various combinations has been manufactured. After the trials, it will be considered as to which grade of Micro-alloys should be produced which will be useful for giving better mechanical properties and yield strength.

It will revolutionize the Mild Steel production through Induction Melting Furnace route. Ministry of Steel has given a grant to develop this Micro Alloy Steels. The Association will be in a position to inform the industry about success of the development work by about May 2003.
